If you are a seasonal reader just like me you are probably now searching for a good book to accompany you during Winter season. A good book you can get under the blanket and read with hot cocoa by your side. A good book you can read that feels just like Winter in the best & cozy way possible.

If that sounds fitting , then you are in the right place! Because I have not one, but three books that will probably fulfill this desire and be your cozy Winter reads. So if a book filled with bookish riddles, mystery, lovely descriptions of winter and a warm & cozy hotel sounds appealing to you – countinue reading!

In today’s post I’m going to introduce you to the Winterhouse book series written by Ben Guterson:

The Winterhouse books synoposis

Orphan Elizabeth Somers’s malevolent aunt and uncle ship her off to the ominous Winterhouse Hotel, owned by the peculiar Norbridge Falls. Upon arrival, Elizabeth quickly discovers that Winterhouse has many charms- most notably its massive library.

It’s not long before she locates a magical book of puzzles that will unlock a mystery involving Norbridge and his sinister family. But the deeper she delves into the hotel’s secrets, the more Elizabeth starts to realize that she is somehow connected to Winterhouse.

As fate would have it, Elizabeth is the only person who can break the hotel’s curse and solve the mystery. But will it be at the cost of losing the people she has come to care for, and even Winterhouse itself?

The Winterhouse trilogy follows Elizabeth and her adventures at the Winterhouse hotel alongside her best friend Freddy, and some peculiar new guests that add to the mystery.

why does the winterhouse books are the most cozy winter reads?

When I think of books to read during Winter time, these books are at the top of my list. After reading the whole series last winter I’m certainly planing to come back to it again this year and here’s why:

Beautiful & atmospheric winter descriptions

Big parts of the story take place around Christmas and Winter time. What it means is a lot of atmospheric descriptions of the weather, of the cozy Winterhouse hotel and of the beautiful Christmas tree in the great hall. In order to fully understand what I mean you will simply have to read it, and then I’m sure you’d agree it’s the best.

Bookish puzzels and interactive riddles

One of the things that makes this books stand out most in my eyes is the fact that it contains a whole world of word games, riddles and puzzles, some you can solve by yourself and some are simply very enjoyble to read. In the first book, for instane, one word from the chapter’s title is transformed into another (which has something to do with the chapter’s plot) by a word ladder.

Loveable and mysterious characters

The key to a good book is good characters. Without them, the book just lacks charm. In the Winterhouse series the characters are so fun, relatble and unique in their own way. The main character, Elizabteh, is very smart & detective like. She’s also easy to resonate with, like each and every other charcter in the story actually.

Easy & light to read

The Winterhouse book series is a middle grade series which makes it very easy and comfortable to read, perfect for a nice and cozy reading session during a cold Winter day.

Lots of cozy elements

Just the fact that the setting takes place inside a grand and beautiful hotel during Winter time is enough to realize that the book (the three books actually) screams COZINESS. Talking sessions by the fireplace, unfolding a mystery and skiing are just a few of the cozy elements that the books offer.
